Scheduling & Planning
Planning
Planning consists in predefining what has to be done and the resources that will be necessary to complete the work. It means among others spreading processes in a finite time frame. The notion is not to be mixed up with scheduling while it is only the first step. Planning processes is not limited to defining starting times. The availability timetable of resources needs to be taken into account in order to reach their optimal use.
Scheduling
Scheduling consists in launching processes on one or more production equipment by means of dedicated software. It allows to define the process sequencing. This means a given process will be started after another one is completed rather than at a given time. The process notion can be quite general while it can be whatever command that is sent to one or more equipments.
Added value
- Production of the required quantities in due time
- Taking the changes into account in real time
- Communication of the real time status to customers
- High rate of availablilty
- Optimal usage of the resources
- Reduction of risk of errors
